I'd like to express my appreciation for the many authors, professors, teachers, students, scientists, engineers, journalists, and readers whose works or feedbackhave contributed to this timeline in one fashion or another. I'd also like to thank all those science fiction novelists who helped shape my youth and continue to enthrall me today with their visions for what could or should be. Only a few of the most recent sci fi writers are referred to by name in the timeline, but virtually all the popular and classic authors of the past have served to shape my ideas in one way or another, as I have been a voracious reader of the genre all my life.

Another point I'd like to bring up concerns the use of proper names here for certain events and technologies (i.e., the "Heplinger Continuum Bridge" and the like), and the more extreme speculation regarding specific people and events. The names and more speculative specifics are from a novel I'm currently writing about the future described here; I primarily retained the names for this presentation because they provide convenient markers for events and technologies, making it easier for author and reader alike to grasp the full implications of the events and processes charted, and follow their evolution throughout the document. If and when these events and technologies are realized, the names of course will surely differ from those I've chosen.

As for the more speculative elements presented here in Perspectives, these I have included to provide readers with three things: (one), a more personal perspective on individual lives and lifestyles throughout this future history, (two), a better grasp on the possibilities for personal ambitions and capacities, given the developments described here, and (three), hopefully greater entertainment value for readers than what my somewhat dry description of future technologies and progress in the timeline might otherwise provide on its own.

So who is J.R. Mooneyham, and just what are his qualifications for speculating about the future of government, business, technology, and society?
