5-18-07: Crossroads: The backstory of Jerry Staute and Shadowfast

Crossroads is a new page listing stories to come about Jerry Staute's childhood and how he first met both his best friend Steve and Shadowfast.

I'm linking Crossroads most prominently in The journals of Jerry Staute rather than The Shadowfast supercar driver logs, for several reasons. These include my suspicion that supercar fans might not like as much accounts where the driver has no expert skills yet, and his car's still a plain jane Mach 1 Mustang. Plus, the Mustang doesn't even enter the picture at all until the second half of Crossroads. Thirdly, Crossroads is basically Staute's 'life-story', youth-wise. And life stories might turn off many readers! Especially ones as factual as these! Ha, ha.

But for those curious as to how Jerry Staute became the man described in later accounts, they'll find lots of answers here (as the accounts get posted).

1-4-07: The death of Jerry Staute

Whoops! That's not quite accurate. The topic is actually the afterlife of Jerry Staute: for he died immediately before this account begins.

Yep. Unfortunately for Jerry his hopes for eternal rest were dashed when he discovered death truly isn't the end-- at least for some of us.

Jerry is the central character of The Shadowfast supercar driver logs and the novel The Chance of a Realtime. His overall story arc is epic in scale, and outlined in skeletal form at The journals of Jerry Staute.

(there remain sizeable chronological gaps in the accounts as I'm basically posting them in random fashion).

My first day in the afterlife is the first installment of his experiences after death, and offers Jerry some eye-opening revelations on the nature of life and the universe-- as well as reunites him at last with the fabulous Bridget Dufay from Texas.

Ultimate road trips Stories inspired by real life treks with my custom-built car is another entry way into my supercar stories. For those who are interested, creating multiple, somewhat different introductory pages to your content is called 'organic' development of your site, and is recommended in order that as many different folks as possible who might find your content of interest will get the chance. For the search engines today remain very literal in their results. Much like the old joke where you want a computer to tell you something and ask it "Do you know where the file is?" and the computer answers "Yes." but won't actually tell you the location unless you properly phrase the question and specifically ask for that. Today's search engines work much the same way as in the joke, and so users can miss the content they truly want by a mile, just because the engine takes everything as literal and absolute.

8-15-06: I've brought the Pearsall Saga's formatting up to date with the rest of the site

Recent email from readers inspired the update. Folks, I swear I do intend to continue the story. It's just that what comes next is really hard on the Pearsalls-- and I personally don't like seeing people suffer. Even purely fictional characters in TV shows or in films! I think I've just experienced too much of it first-hand, plus witnessed others enduring such things in real life, and so cannot abide it in 'entertainment' fare.

Perhaps it's a sign of widespread American mental illness that we routinely permit displays of horrendous violence, suffering, torture, and gore on our screens, but freak out if a woman's nipple is accidentally exposed on TV, while the Europeans do the opposite. I guess I'd prefer European TV standards to American.

Maybe the Europeans are the way they are today because they actually endured WW II inside their own homes and yards, while only a tiny fraction of Americans did so-- and those Americans had to cross an ocean to do it. Yeah, we did have our Civil War. But that was much longer back. And even then, it was mostly the south which actually experienced the war on home territory. Not the north.

8-5-06 WebFLUX Alert: Vision floaters and cataracts

Folks, if you start seeing lots more so-called "floaters" in your eyes around middle-age, you may look them up on the net and see that unless your eye doc finds something specific in regards to them, they're likely harmless, and may come and go at random.

But if you dig deep enough you'll find them implicated in development of many adverse eye conditions, not the least being the creation of cataracts-- a clouding of your eye lens, which can drive you blind.

It seems your eye lens is a special creation of your body which actually forms in its entirety before birth, inside the womb. One function of the gel-like vitreous humor inside your eyeball may be to isolate your precious lens from getting any oxygen from your bloodstream. For oxygen will cloud the lens with cataracts. At least that's one idea some scientists are following up at the moment.

If your gel-like vitreous humor begins deteriorating-- like liquifying-- bits of the oxygen-carrying blood maintaining the rest of your eye may leak into and around the ball of jelly. This condition may appear in our vision as "floaters".

Lengthy exposure to such floaters may cause your lens to cloud up with a cataract. The only fix at present for this appears to be surgery to replace the lens.

So how can we maintain a healthy vitreous humor? Mostly it's a matter of luck, it seems. Protective DNA which some of us have, and some of us don't. Being that I myself am so afflicted now (and being a non-rich, under-65 American my health insurance sucks) I'm presently searching for more helpful info on this matter. If you're in or approaching middle-age, I recommend you do too. Unless your personal luck is better than average.

7-11-06 WebFLUX Alert: Taking the maximum recommended dose of Tylenol (or other medicines containing the active ingredient acetaminophen) for as little as four days in a row could damage your liver

"If you take Tylenol for four days as directed you may be at risk of liver damage, says a new study..."

-- Tylenol May Cause Serious Liver Damage; 05 Jul 2006; medicalnewstoday.com

Note that in recent years researchers also informed us that the safe and effective dosage size of acetaminophen is considerably smaller than that of many other over-the-counter drugs. That is, it's way too easy to accidentally take an overdose. And an overdose can damage internal organs.

Unfortunately, folks frequently take stuff like Tylenol when they're badly ill, maybe even out of their head with fever or suffering. And so hard-pressed to carefully watch their dosage.

For that reason I personally avoid taking Tylenol until I simply can't get by with anything less. Then I make sure to jot down the time of day I took a dose, in order that I don't accidentally overdose on the stuff. Plus, I try to always re-read the instructions again each time I take a dose, just in case.

It's a cliche in America about doctors often being sought after by women as maybe the ultimate American catch, husband-wise.

My own experience with nurses makes me wonder if they aren't the ultimate American catch in terms of wives: i.e., the ultimate women anywhere around.

Several minor tweaks to maybe a third of the Shadowfast supercar pages were made over the last couple days...but I also added a photo of some of Shadowfast's old equipment as described in some of the driver's log accounts like Over the edge. Namely, the tow ropes. I kept most of Shadow's unattached accessories when I sold him, such as the tow ropes. Stuff like the toolbox and its tools are likely too mundane to be of interest to readers. But perhaps the more unusual devices to carry around in the average street car would pique more interest. Such as the massive tow ropes used to anchor Shadow during tornado buffeting in Texas, or help him climb mountains in Over the edge. Shadow's original tow ropes can now be seen at Shadow's collection of unique gadgets and tricks.

The Crucible of the Soul's table of contents and content WITHOUT references have both gotten the biggest updates in years. I'm planning on adding a page WITH references too when I get the time.

What did geeks do before personal computers and the internet were widespread? and Playing God have been updated (and no, they are not related in content-- it's just a humorous coincidence).

The Shadowfast Super Car Project Context of the Times, Real life supercar, and the table of contents or index for 1,000,000 BC- 8,001 BC The Peopling of the Prehistoric Americas and the Extinctions of the American Megafauna without references and WITH references have all been updated.

6-4-05: Update of The enormous hidden costs to society of 'right-wing' political governance

The enormous hidden costs to society of 'right-wing' political governance has gotten its first significant update in quite a while. The first page is the index or table of contents. As mentioned elsewhere on site I've begun separating my own writing from my references, as readers seem to prefer having such an option, plus it tends to make average page sizes smaller and easier and faster for folks to download and digest. This separation has now been down for this topic, with the streamlined content here and the content INCLUDING references here.
